Cut as a full circle rather than the usual square, the Terra sets its sixty-four square field into a disc of veined charcoal marble. The playing squares are inlaid in fossil stone and dark marble, each a slightly different draw of the quarry, so the grid is never quite uniform. The thirty-two pieces are turned from those same two stones and carry real weight in the hand. Heavy enough that it stays where you put it, which is usually a table it improves.

  • Material: Veined charcoal marble, fossil stone inlay
  • Dimensions: Approx. 40 cm diameter, 3 cm thick (15.75 x 1.25 in)
  • Weight: Approx. 7,000 g
  • Hardware: None
  • Set includes: Board and 32 turned stone pieces

Features

  • Two-material construction: charcoal marble board, fossil stone inlay
  • Circular board rather than the conventional square
  • 64 squares inlaid flush, alternating fossil stone and dark marble
  • 32 pieces turned from those same two stones
  • Polished top face, honed edge
  • Unsealed natural stone — seal before use to resist staining
  • Veining differs on every board

Wipe up wine, citrus, coffee and alcohol immediately, as marble etches on contact with acid. Clean with a soft cloth and plain water or a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Never use vinegar, lemon, bleach or household spray. Seal the board once a year to resist staining, and set it on felt pads. Store the pieces in a lined box so the stone does not chip.
